Hey,
My name is Jennifer Lea Horn, a multidisciplinary artist based in Victoria, British Columbia. I studied music in college while also pursuing visual arts and writing on the side, always creating and working to communicate my point of view. My visual art practice swings between illustrative work in pen and watercolour and mixed-media abstracts, primarily in charcoal and acrylics. Of late, I inherited my grandfather’s old paint box filled with his oil paints and palette knives, which is encouraging me to fall in love with oils. My music practice is currently all about playing songs that I love and sharing my original pieces. You’ll find other creative collaborations and musings here, too. I hope you enjoy my space.
Artwork
Abstracts
I explore little worlds in my mind and bring them to life on paper and canvas. Right now, my work feels a little random, but as I make more, I believe a theme will emerge in my upcoming pieces.
Illustrations
I usually make my illustrations with someone else in mind, and they often end up being sent to that person as a token of love. I have also done a few commissions, which bring me great joy.
You’ll find all work I feel is shareable, plus a few for sale, here.
Collaborations
The work I am most excited about right now is a collaboration with Anisa Skuce and Ellen Pelto called The Material Between Us. This project began with paper-making, then moved to producing work where the paper is both the subject and the object of each piece. You can find more information about this project here.

Music
I produced an album of original compositions in 2003 called Shelf Life. I performed for many years in Edmonton, Alberta, and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In partnership with Nathalie Tait, I helped create more performance opportunities for local musicians in Edmonton through our company called Project Release.
Of late, I have been playing a few open mics and have been working with guitar player Mike Haisell. I will keep posting any upcoming gigs we have here.
Picture, Picture on a Blog
To fuel my creativity, I created a space where anyone could submit an image, and I would write a story based on what I saw. I set a few rules to protect myself from the internet’s horrors. Everyone who submitted an image followed them, and I was so grateful. With my new little corner of the internet, I thought I would open this idea up again. You can access more information about this project here.
Poetry
The music I compose also happens to have lyrics. I keep writing poetry with and without the song. Mostly, little musings about what I observe and feel while moving around. You can read my poems here.
